Our September Men's Program is scheduled for September 14 from 7 to 9pm.
Introducing our September Men’s Program guest speaker, Michael Cleland
Michael’s daughter Jessica suicided Easter Saturday 2014. Michael found her. The family found out afterwards that she had been bullied by an ex-boyfriend and his mate online for an hour and a half the night before. The coroner named both of them in the report. No charges were laid and they were not interviewed by police. As Michael says ‘we have seen firsthand how useless the bullying laws are and have been trying to get them changed and to make people aware of the dangers of bullying’.
Michael has been an ambassador for Bully Zero for 2 years and speaks at schools to both kids and parents about the dangers of bullying and suicide. He has also done TV interviews and Jessica’s story has been covered in the media and on the web. Michael says ‘I know getting her story out there has saved a number of lives’. Michael has also spoken at Support After Suicide information evenings. He tries where possible to break the stigma of suicide and to educate so that others do not have to go through what he and his family have.
