Our November Men's Program is scheduled for next Thursday November 14 from 7 to 9pm
Introducing our November Men’s Program guest speaker, Paul Stewart
We all know that grief changes over time and our November Men’s Program guest speaker was a guest speaker at the Men’s Program in July 2012. Thankfully he has agreed to come back and share his story with us once more. Paul Stewart better known as Paulie, was born and bred in St Kilda and won the inaugural ESSENCE OF ST KILDA essay prize. He was also an original member of infamous Melbourne Punk Rock Band Painters and Dockers who were inducted into The Age Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2010.
The Painters and Dockers released seven albums and have performed more than 1500 live shows throughout Australia, New Zealand and North America.
Paulie was also an original member of East Timorese/Australian band The Dili Allstars who won the 2011 ARIA award for Best Soundtrack for their “Balibo” album. The Dili Allstars have toured extensively in Australia, East Timor, Portugal and Brazil and have released three albums, two EPs and an ABC Records “Best Of” and have raised thousands of dollars for various East Timorese charities. Paulie was also the music writer at Sunday Herald Sun from 1995-2010.
He founded The PRICS (Performers Releasing Information about Clean Syringes/Careful Sex) musical troupe who delivered safe health messages in juvenile detention centers, jails and women’s refuges and released two albums in conjunction with leading radio youth network JJJ. Paulie was also the founder and member of rock band The Transplants whose members have all undergone organ transplants. This band regularly perform to promote organ donation.
Paulie now manages and mentors at risk young people at the Artful Dodgers Studio run by Jesuit Social Services.
