Support After Suicide offers a monthly Mindfulness & Meditation evening for people bereaved by suicide. Even if you are not familiar with mindfulness and meditation, these evenings will introduce self-care tools that anyone can try. Just sitting quietly with others who have been through a similar loss can help counter feelings of isolation that often follow the suicide of someone close.
Our March self-help bulletin with links to recommended resources is attached.
Each Mindfulness & Meditation evening will be hosted by trained Support After Suicide volunteers, Kathy Westfold and Greg Hammond. Kathy is a visual artist and is currently undertaking graduate studies in Art Therapy. Her son suicided eight years ago. She has practiced meditation in the Zen tradition for 10 years. Greg used mindfulness practices for self-care after his daughter took her own life in 2012. Having found mindfulness techniques, music and writing useful, Greg delved into the information on suicide bereavement. Greg recently retired from health care IT and information management and worked as a clinician prior to his IT career.
The meetings are one hour long, but you are welcome to stay on for tea and bikkies. Places are limited so please contact the office on 03 9421 7640 to register.
