Introducing our December Men’s Program Guest Speaker: Gerard Ryan APM
Gerard is the Chairperson of “Police Veterans Support Victoria” Steering Committee looking after the welfare of Victoria Police Veterans and their families.
He retired from Victoria Police in 2014 at the rank of Detective Superintendent at Crime Command managing Purana Task Force, Joint Organised Crime Task Force, Joint Counter Terrorism Task Force (both joint task forces operating out of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Melbourne and Trident Task Force operating out of Australian Border Force, Melbourne. He was responsible for policing the State of Victoria, Nationally and International working with law enforcement agencies around the world relating to organised crime and counter terrorism.
Gerard retired from full time employment in December 2016, now employed by the Australian Football League (AFL) as an Integrity & Safety Officer on a casual basis with the AFL Competition Integrity and Security Department.
He was awarded the Australian Police Medal in the 2011 Australia Day Honours Awards for his service to policing and also recognising his community work outside policing.
In 1990 he was elected to the Sandringham Football Club Board in the Victorian Football League (VFL) becoming President of the club in 2006 the position he held until April 2014, which he relinquished due to a conflict of interest with his role as the AFL Senior Investigator. He is a Life member of both Sandringham Football Club and the Victorian Football League (AFL).
At our December Men’s Program Gerard will not only be talking about his work with the Victoria Police but also about Head to Head Walk 2018 www.headtoheadwalk.org.au and mental health issues confronting both current and past police members.
